Frontline for Climate Action (FCA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Isaac Ndur Nyame as Project Pillar Lead for Energy Sovereignty Awareness under its Powering Justice: Grassroots Advocacy for Energy Sovereignty and a Just Transition in Ghana project, supported by the Global Greengrants Fund.

His appointment reflects FCA’s commitment to empowering advocates who combine technical expertise, research and community engagement to advance climate justice and sustainable development.

Ghana’s energy transition must be measured not only by renewable energy generation, but also by whether communities understand their energy choices and can influence decisions affecting their livelihoods. FCA believes that women, young people and grassroots communities must have a meaningful voice in shaping a fair and inclusive energy future.

Isaac Ndur Nyame is an energy researcher with an MPhil in Energy Studies from the University of Cape Coast. His research examined how the adoption of modern energy services and technologies influences Ghana’s final energy demand. He has also contributed to a Springer-published book chapter on long-term energy demand in Ghana.

As a Research Fellow at the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL), Isaac works at the intersection of climate change, education, energy and sustainable development. His experience as a climate change education advocate and in fieldwork across Ghana has strengthened his commitment to making complex energy issues accessible to communities.

As Project Pillar Lead for Energy Sovereignty Awareness, Isaac will connect evidence-based energy research with practical community education, helping people understand decentralised renewable energy options, energy rights and the importance of participation in a just transition.

Key Responsibilities

·       Community Awareness: Coordinate grassroots sensitisation campaigns explaining energy sovereignty, energy access and the principles of a just transition.

·       Renewable Energy Education: Promote understanding of decentralised renewable energy technologies and locally appropriate, people-centred solutions.

·       Educational Toolkits: Support the development and dissemination of accessible learning materials on energy choices, participation and sustainable energy systems.

·       Inclusive Community Dialogue: Facilitate participatory discussions enabling women and young people to identify energy challenges and explore local solutions.

·       Knowledge Sharing and Advocacy: Document community perspectives, collaborate with other project pillar leads and translate recurring concerns into practical advocacy messages.

Through these activities, Isaac will help make energy sovereignty understandable and actionable, ensuring that communities are informed and equipped to contribute to Ghana’s sustainable energy future.

About the Powering Justice Project

Powering Justice: Grassroots Advocacy for Energy Sovereignty and a Just Transition in Ghana is a three-month initiative implemented by Frontline for Climate Action with support from the Global Greengrants Fund.

The project empowers grassroots communities, particularly women and young people, to advocate for environmental justice, energy sovereignty and an inclusive transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy systems. It is structured around four complementary pillars: Advocacy Dialogues; Women’s Leadership in Energy Justice; Environmental Justice Campaigns; and Energy Sovereignty Awareness.

Through these interventions, FCA aims to facilitate community–policymaker engagement, strengthen the capacity of 50 women climate advocates, raise awareness of environmental justice and increase understanding of decentralised renewable energy solutions.

Investing in Youth Leadership for Lasting Climate Impact

Isaac’s appointment reflects FCA’s belief that young professionals and researchers can bridge the gap between technical knowledge, public policy and community realities. By supporting emerging leaders, FCA seeks to strengthen evidence-informed advocacy and meaningful grassroots participation.

Congratulations, Isaac Ndur Nyame! Together, we are powering justice, empowering communities and building a sustainable future for Ghana.

People. Power. Just Energy for a Sustainable Ghana.
