FCA Appoints Benedicta Akesse Annan, Esq. to Lead Women’s Leadership in Energy Justice

Frontline for Climate Action (FCA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Benedicta Akesse Annan, Esq. as Project Pillar Lead for Women’s Leadership in Energy Justice under its Powering Justice: Grassroots Advocacy for Energy Sovereignty and a Just Transition in Ghana project, supported by the Global Greengrants Fund.
Her appointment reflects FCA’s commitment to empowering advocates with the skills, professional experience and dedication needed to advance inclusive climate action, environmental justice and a people-centred energy transition.
Bringing Legal Expertise to Women’s Energy Leadership
Benedicta Akesse Annan, Esq. is a lawyer practising at Ntrakwah & Co. Law Firm. Her legal background brings a valuable perspective to discussions on rights, participation, accountability and equitable decision-making in Ghana’s energy transition.
FCA recognises that women must have meaningful opportunities not only to understand energy and environmental policies but also to influence the decisions that shape their communities and livelihoods. Through this appointment, Benedicta will help translate that commitment into practical leadership development and advocacy.
Her Role as Project Pillar Lead
As Lead for Women’s Leadership in Energy Justice, Benedicta will coordinate activities that equip women with the knowledge, confidence and networks to engage actively in energy justice and just-transition processes. Her core responsibilities include:
· Capacity Building: Coordinate capacity-building activities for 50 women climate advocates.
· Women’s Participation: Promote women’s participation and leadership in energy transition processes and related public discussions.
· Network Development: Support the establishment of a Women for Energy Sovereignty Network to encourage collaboration, peer learning and sustained advocacy.
· Stakeholder Engagement: Work with other project pillar leads, relevant institutions and community stakeholders to connect women’s perspectives to wider advocacy efforts.
Through these activities, Benedicta will contribute to FCA’s wider objective of ensuring that women and young people are informed, empowered and actively involved in shaping Ghana’s sustainable energy future.
About the Powering Justice Project
Powering Justice: Grassroots Advocacy for Energy Sovereignty and a Just Transition in Ghana is a three-month initiative implemented by Frontline for Climate Action with support from the Global Greengrants Fund. It seeks to empower grassroots communities, particularly women and young people, to advocate for environmental justice, energy sovereignty and an inclusive transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy systems.
The initiative comprises four complementary pillars: Advocacy Dialogues; Women’s Leadership in Energy Justice; Environmental Justice Campaigns; and Energy Sovereignty Awareness. Together, they aim to strengthen community voices, advance policy engagement and build practical awareness of equitable energy solutions.
Investing in Leadership for Lasting Climate Impact
Benedicta’s appointment underscores FCA’s belief that a just energy transition requires informed participation, strong institutions and opportunities for women to lead. By combining legal insight with practical capacity-building and network development, this pillar will help make women’s leadership a central part of the energy justice conversation.
Congratulations, Benedicta Akesse Annan, Esq.! We look forward to working with you to advance women’s leadership, strengthen community participation and promote a fair and sustainable energy future for Ghana. People. Power. Just Energy for a Sustainable Ghana.
