Ahead of AFSTM: Breakfast Meeting to Build Connections and Transform Food Systems

Frontline for Climate Action, on behalf of World Animal Protection, will convene a strategic Breakfast Meeting on Friday, 15 May 2026, from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Paloma Hotel, Accra, ahead of the 4th Africa Food Systems Transformation Meeting scheduled for 18–20 May 2026 in Accra.

The meeting will bring together Ghana-based CSOs, farmers’ groups, youth and grassroots organizations, climate resilience practitioners, development partners, and food systems stakeholders. Its purpose is to strengthen collaboration, exchange ideas, and identify practical opportunities for advancing just, humane, inclusive, and climate-resilient food systems in Ghana and across Africa.

The session will be moderated by Michael Marley Masopeh, Biodiversity Lead at Frontline for Climate Action. Michael will guide the conversations, connect the voices in the room, and help position biodiversity, climate action, grassroots resilience, and sustainable food systems as central themes in Africa’s transformation agenda.

Dr. Daniel Ako Charway, Pharmacist and Farmer, Founder of Homegrown by Farmer Dan,

will speak on “Food Systems in Ghana and Priorities for the Future.” His presentation will highlight Ghana’s current food systems realities, emerging challenges, opportunities for local production, and the need to build resilient, inclusive, and future-ready food systems.

Rebecca Bediako, Meteorologist, will speak on “The Impact of Climate Change on Food Systems.” Her contribution will draw attention to how changing weather patterns, climate variability, droughts, floods, and extreme events affect food production, farmer livelihoods, food security, and long-term agricultural planning.

Salomey Kahiu, External Affairs Lead for Africa at World Animal Protection, will speak on “World Animal Protection.” Her presentation will introduce World Animal Protection’s work and its focus on just transition in food systems, sustainable alternatives to harmful production models, and the importance of humane, climate-conscious approaches to food systems transformation in Africa.

This Breakfast Meeting is more than a pre-event gathering. It is a timely platform for dialogue, relationship-building, and action. As Africa prepares for the 4th AFSTM, the meeting offers participants an opportunity to contribute to continental and global conversations on food systems, climate action, animal welfare, agroecology, and sustainable development.

Under the theme of building connections and transforming food systems, the convening will help establish a stronger network of Ghanaian stakeholders committed to practical solutions, shared learning, and long-term collaboration.

Together, we can transform food systems for a resilient Africa.
