Frontline for Climate Action and I-DIEM Explore Collaboration to Tackle Climate Change and Promote Diversity in Emergency Management

Last Friday, representatives from Frontline for Climate Action paid a courtesy visit to the Africa Head Office of the Institute for Diversity and Inclusion in Emergency Management (I-DIEM) based in Ghana. The meeting marked the beginning of a promising partnership between two organizations committed to addressing critical global challenges: climate change and the integration of diversity, equity, and inclusion in emergency management.

I-DIEM, a globally recognized NGO, has a strong focus on promoting diversity and inclusion within the field of emergency management. With years of experience in disaster management across various levels of government and the private sector, I-DIEM has established itself as a leader in integrating equity into all aspects of emergency response and preparedness. The organization is dedicated to empowering marginalized communities, ensuring they are well-represented and resilient in the face of disasters.

The mission of I-DIEM is clear: to advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in emergency management. The organization leads efforts to increase the representation of women and people of color in this critical field, particularly in leadership roles.

Through awareness, training, and education, I-DIEM serves as a vital resource and advocate for equitable emergency management practices that improve outcomes for all communities.

Frontline for Climate Action, a youth-centered and volunteer-driven NGO, has a parallel mission to combat the climate crisis and promote sustainable practices. The organization was founded to address the urgent need for dedicated climate action, leveraging the energy, creativity, and passion of young people to drive social impact. Through community engagement and innovative approaches, Frontline for Climate Action strives to deliver climate solutions that make a tangible difference at the grassroots level while influencing national and international policy outcomes.

The meeting between the two organizations focused on exploring collaborative opportunities to address climate change while advancing the principles of diversity and inclusion in emergency management. Representing I-DIEM were Country Director Mr. Ekow Rhule, Planner and Special Projects Lead Jennifer Kwansema, and Media and Communication Officer Kofi Annan. Frontline for Climate Action was represented by Executive Director Cedric Dzelu, Climate Justice Lead Edward Xorse Dogbartse, Communication Officer Peter Martin, Finance Lead Bemah Afia Nimako, and Procurement Officer John Matrevi.

The discussion was highly productive, concluding with three key outcomes that will guide future engagement between the two organizations. These outcomes lay the groundwork for a strategic partnership aimed at tackling the intertwined challenges of climate change and emergency management, with a strong emphasis on equity, diversity, and inclusion.

This collaboration holds great promise for both organizations as they work together to create a more sustainable and just world, ensuring that all communities, especially those most vulnerable, are empowered and protected in the face of climate-related disasters.
