On the sidelines of the 62nd Session of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies (SB 62) in Bonn, the Ghana Chapter of the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) formally welcomed a new member, Frontline for Climate Action, into its national coalition. The announcement was made during a strategic meeting between Grace Ampomaa Afrifa, Chair of the Ghana Chapter of PACJA, and Dr. Mithika Mwenda, Executive Director of PACJA.
The meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on the role of national chapters in shaping Africa’s climate future and explored deeper collaboration, coordinated advocacy, and ways to leverage PACJA’s continental platforms to amplify local climate action. It also emphasized the importance of uniting diverse actors across civil society to strengthen Africa’s collective voice on climate justice.
Frontline for Climate Action, represented by its founder Cedric Dzelu, joins PACJA Ghana as a youth-centered, volunteer-driven organization committed to driving climate solutions at the grassroots level while influencing national and global policy. Founded to respond to the urgency of the climate crisis, the organization mobilizes young people through advocacy, innovation, and community engagement to promote sustainability and intergenerational equity.
Grace Ampomaa Afrifa, who also serves as Head of Programmes at ABANTU for Development, reiterated PACJA Ghana’s commitment to inclusive leadership and gender-responsive climate action. ABANTU for Development is a leading women-led NGO headquartered in Accra, with a strong presence across West Africa in promoting women’s leadership in governance, public policy, and climate resilience.
As Africa’s largest civil society coalition on climate change, PACJA operates across more than 50 countries with thousands of member organizations. It plays a central role in influencing climate policy through advocacy, research, and capacity-building. PACJA’s platforms provide a coordinated space for national chapters to engage in global negotiations, promote climate justice, and shape Africa’s common position on pressing climate issues.
The introduction of Frontline for Climate Action marks a strategic expansion of the PACJA Ghana Chapter, merging youthful energy with experienced leadership to build momentum for climate action that is community-led, inclusive, and impactful. As Ghana deepens its climate ambition, this collaboration underscores the power of partnerships in advancing a just, equitable, and sustainable future for Africa.
