In the build-up to COP30 in Belém, Brazil — a historic negotiation moment taking place in the heart of the Amazon — Frontline for Climate Action (FCA) is hosting a virtual PRE-COP30 Capacity-Building Workshop designed to prepare young African activists, students, community advocates, and emerging climate leaders for meaningful engagement in this year’s climate negotiations.
2025 presents one of the most defining years yet in global climate diplomacy. The urgency of climate justice, climate finance, nature protection, community resilience, and adaptation priorities will take center stage. Yet, despite their passion and leadership, many young Africans do not always have access to simplified pre-COP learning support that clarifies negotiation themes, unpack technical areas, or help them connect local climate realities to global decision-making.
This FCA PRE-COP30 workshop is intentionally designed to bridge that gap.
The session provides a short, dynamic, and interactive learning experience for young actors to strengthen their understanding of the major issues expected to dominate COP30 — from forests, oceans, and biodiversity, to local climate action, resilience, and climate mobility finance. The workshop highlights the voices of frontline communities and draws attention to right-to-stay narratives, nature-based solutions, and sub-national climate action priorities.
Rather than a long lecture-style conversation, this virtual workshop is structured as a moderated exchange space where participants can share perspectives, ask questions, compare contexts, and reflect on Africa’s role in shaping COP30 outcomes.
With participation from youth advocates, community representatives, student leaders, civil society actors, and early-career climate professionals, the workshop aims to:
strengthen pre-COP knowledge
elevate grassroots experiences
connect nature-related priorities to COP30
unpack climate mobility financing
boost confidence for active COP engagement
By the end of the workshop, participants will not only be more prepared for COP30, but they will also better appreciate the interconnectedness between nature systems, climate governance, and the resilience struggles of affected communities across Africa.
Frontline for Climate Action believes that young people must not wait for negotiations to begin to understand the issues.
This PRE-COP30 learning space is an early preparation platform — a step toward ensuring that Africa’s youth enter COP30 not as passive observers, but as informed contributors who can track negotiations, interpret outcomes, and amplify narratives that matter.
With this workshop, FCA reaffirms its commitment to accessible, youth-centered capacity-building and to elevating frontline voices at the heart of climate diplomacy.
The message is clear: Africa’s young climate actors belong at the center of COP30 — and preparation begins now.
