PM Sports Foundation in collaboration with Frontline for Climate Action Bridges Climate Action, Gender, and Sports Leadership Through the EmpowHer Tennis Clinic

ree

In a powerful convergence of sport, gender advocacy, and climate action, the PM Sports Foundation hosted the EmpowHer Tennis Clinic at the Accra Sports Stadium, a transformative event designed to empower young girls through sport while equipping them with the tools to confront the climate crisis. As part of this initiative, Frontline for Climate Action was invited to lead a specialized climate education workshop at the stadium’s Media Hub.

Representing Frontline as the resource person was Mr. Peter Nartey Martin, the organization’s Communication Officer, who delivered a compelling and insight-rich presentation on the intersection of climate change, sports, community resilience, sustainability, and environmental leadership. With a strong emphasis on the pivotal role of the girl child in climate action, Mr. Martin sparked engaging discussions and inspired a new wave of eco-conscious young athletes.

The workshop shed light on how Ghana’s changing climate is already having a visible impact

on sports, altering athletic performance, damaging facilities, and limiting safe and inclusive access to sporting spaces. These challenges are especially acute for girls and marginalized communities, who often face double vulnerabilities due to both environmental risks and social barriers.

In a highly participatory session, Mr. Martin and the participants explored practical pathways for youth-led climate action, focusing on how young girls can champion environmental stewardship in their schools, sports clubs, and local communities. From tree planting to advocating for greener school environments and water conservation practices, the girls left the session empowered with knowledge and a renewed sense of purpose.

The strategic vision of PM Sports Foundation in aligning gender equity, climate education, and sports development was widely commended.

In a time where climate impacts are escalating, such integrative efforts are not only timely but necessary. By nurturing both athletic potential and climate consciousness, the EmpowHer Tennis Clinic stands as a model for holistic youth development.

As Ghana and the world look to youth leadership to drive climate solutions, platforms like EmpowHer are proving that with the right support, young girls can rise as champions, not just on the court, but for the planet.
