In an important step toward promoting climate advocacy and legal accountability in Ghana, the leadership of Frontline for Climate Action and ECO-Africa Network recently visited Hon. Seidu Issifu, the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability. The purpose of the visit was to formally invite him as the keynote speaker for the upcoming Climate Justice Conference 2025, themed “The Role of Law and Policy in Advancing Climate Justice: The Case of Ghana.” Scheduled for April 4, 2025, from 3 PM to 5 PM at the Dr. Daniel McKorley Moot Court at GIMPA, the conference aims to engage a diverse audience of policymakers, legal experts, academics, and youth advocates in crucial conversations about climate justice in the country.

During the meeting, the representatives from Frontline for Climate Action and ECO-Africa Network underscored the essential role that legal and policy frameworks play in mitigating the disproportionate effects of climate change on vulnerable communities. Solomon Djangmah, the Head of Program at Frontline for Climate Action, expressed the importance of the Minister’s participation: “We are eager to have the Minister share his insights and expertise at the conference. His contributions will be instrumental in guiding discussions on legal solutions and policy innovations that promote climate accountability.”

The Climate Justice Conference is set to strengthen collaboration between academia, legal professionals, and climate advocates through thematic panel discussions focusing on topics such as bridging the gap between climate policy and justice, the significance of climate litigation, and the vital role of youth and civil society in the climate justice movement. The event is expected to attract an audience of approximately 200 participants, including law students, researchers, policymakers, and civil society organizations dedicated to advancing climate justice in Ghana.

Hon. Seidu Issifu responded positively to the invitation, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to engage with the community on such pressing issues. “It is an honor to accept this invitation to speak at the Climate Justice Conference 2025. Addressing climate justice requires concerted efforts and innovative legal frameworks, and I look forward to sharing insights that can inform our path toward a sustainable future,” he stated.

The Climate Justice Conference 2025 aims not only to empower youth and legal practitioners but also to produce actionable policy recommendations that enhance environmental justice in Ghana. As organizations like Frontline for Climate Action and ECO-Africa Network take the lead in spearheading these important discussions, this collaboration highlights the urgent need for integrated approaches to climate governance that prioritize equity and accountability.

With the combined efforts of all stakeholders, bolstered by strong leadership from the Minister, the conference is poised to be a pivotal moment in advocating for climate justice in Ghana and fostering a more equitable and sustainable future for all.
