My name is Emmanuel Narjotey, and as a volunteer with Frontline for Climate Action, I have committed myself to driving transformative change in the clean cooking sector. As a social entrepreneur, accountant, and briquette technician, I believe that climate action must be rooted in practical, community-based solutions—and for me, that begins with the way we cook.
Through my Clean Cooking Initiative, I am focused on producing and promoting sustainable biomass briquettes made from coconut shells and agricultural waste, alongside the distribution of improved cookstoves. This initiative addresses three critical issues caused by traditional wood fuel: deforestation, indoor air pollution, and carbon emissions. By turning waste into renewable energy, we can protect our forests, improve health outcomes in homes, and cut down harmful emissions.
Drawing on my technical experience in biomass fuel production and my understanding of rural market dynamics, I’m working to build a community-based model that supplies affordable, efficient, and climate-smart cooking solutions. My vision is to empower households with cleaner alternatives, while also creating green jobs and promoting a circular economy.
With the support of Frontline for Climate Action’s leadership platform, I am scaling this initiative to reach vulnerable communities most reliant on wood and charcoal. I plan to establish decentralized briquette hubs that process local biomass waste into fuel, while also leading capacity-building efforts, creating awareness campaigns, and piloting incentive-based adoption schemes to accelerate behavioral change.
This work is about more than just fuel—it’s about restoring balance with nature, protecting the health of our people, and building resilient, climate-conscious communities. I believe this model can be replicated across Ghana and the wider region to contribute meaningfully to our national and global climate goals.
I’m calling on partners, funders, and climate advocates to join me on this journey. Together, we can turn agricultural waste into opportunity and empower households with the tools they need for a healthier, greener future.
Let’s #ActNow for clean energy, for our forests, and for the generations to come.
