The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced its selection of 12 innovative projects to receive funding through the Accra Youth Climate Action Fund (AYCAF) initiative. Among these projects, Frontline for Climate Action has been chosen to implement its project titled "Integrating Climate Change Education in Local Governance and Development."
Supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, the AYCAF was launched in April 2024 by the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Elizabeth Naa Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey. This initiative aims to empower the youth of Accra to actively participate in climate action and sustainability projects, highlighting the critical role of young people in addressing climate change challenges.
Frontline for Climate Action's project focuses on building the capacity and knowledge of local government officials to effectively integrate climate change considerations into grassroots development processes. By fostering climate-sensitive policy-making and promoting community-led solutions, the project aims to enhance climate resilience and sustainable development in local governance.
The selected projects under AYCAF cover a wide range of initiatives, including youth-managed recycling and waste reduction programs, the Accra Community Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Source Separation at Jamestown, and the Plastic Footprint Reduction Project (PFRP). Other projects include Mangrove Restoration for Coastal Protection and Urban Greening, Sustainable Climate Financing Initiatives, Green Future Awareness and Education Campaign, Project Ecomakola, Clean Accra: Source Separation of Waste, the Green Ambassadors program, Empowering Youth in Climate Resilience and Climate Preparedness, and the Youth Eco Power project.
Through these diverse initiatives, AYCAF is set to make a significant impact on Accra's environmental sustainability and climate resilience efforts. Frontline for Climate Action is honored to be part of this transformative journey, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for Accra.
Congratulations 🎉
